Independent Learning Program

Change a young person's life!

Host a Summit Public Schools high school student in our course-credit school program.

Summit Public Schools offers a unique internship program that often translates into life changing experiences for our students.

We are seeking opportunities for our students to do an 8-week internship in local organizations.

  • The goal of this internship program is to provide students with workplace skills and career  exploration opportunities through project-based learning in a real world environment.

  • Eight weeks long:  Students work at their internships for anywhere between 4-8 hours each day for a total of 30 hours each week (see dates below).  Each student will work out a set schedule, objectives, and sign  a contract with their workplace supervisor prior to beginning the internship.

  • The internship supervisor and student collaboratively plan one or more projects for the student to work on over the eight weeks. Past student interns have worked on projects that include event and marketing support, web design, recruitment and retention projects, research, media production, networking, software and hardware support, and public relations.

  • Our volunteer Interns are covered by Summit Public Schools liability insurance while on site or participating in any activity related to their internship.

  • Students are not paid, and receive school course credit for the internship.

  • Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from their internship.

  • We are seeking internships from San Francisco to San Jose for these Bay Area high schools:
    • Daly City - Summit Shasta High School
    • Redwood City – Summit Preparatory High School & Summit Everest High School
    • San Jose – Summit Tahoma High School & Summit Rainier High School
